Why food prices are rising like hell ?

Am writing this with immense anger over myself and my surroundings.
Everyone should now be aware of the recent food prices soaring like anything. There are almost many factors that determine food prices around the world. The lacuna between the production and consumption has certainly widened. It is every individual's duty to know how he/she is responsible for contributing to this carnage. I already predicted this a year and a half before.
The country's worst nightmare has come true. This definitely is a bright sign that this world is heading towards perdition. People who are reading this may not be directly influenced by the price hike at all, but its only a matter of time we are going to face the ramifications directly.
Last week, I was supposed to go to a lunch with my team where the cost of a single buffet was 650 bucks! Is it really worth it? Definitely no! We should certainly realize that there are many people who cant even afford to their basic amenities which ofcourse is food. Now, why the hell should I pay that much to have a single lunch? Well, one can immediately counter that I'm not the one paying for it, its my organization. So, what ? Paying and having a nice team lunch is going to improve my rapport with the team, strengthening the togetherness bla bla, but the price I pay is too much, literally!
The future is certainly doomed and this world is heading towards a direction beyond repair. Unless, each and every individual accepts that he is part of this catastrophe and act accordingly, definitely this world will come to and end soon.

Every thing looks good, but what you concluded at last..? so Team lunches are worst or ..?

@ranjith: I am not saying team lunches are bad. They are good from one perspective. Now, you need to be entirely aware that its gonna do more harm than good. Thats my point.

I am absolutely with Braga in his argument. It's very evident that the poor and hungry are probably the first to know the effects of this price Rice. Leave alone the recommended nutritional value, they will not be able to half-fill their stomachs now...
Our politicians have cleverly put the blame on the global warming. how more idiotic cud this get? they should have ****ing acted when the symptoms first showed up in the horizon. Now its too late..

@Ganesh. Well said sir. I wanted to post an article of comprehensiveness with pages and pages. But how many do you think will have the patience to read it? Hardly few.
I am not trying to defend the lack of matter. But it takes really a huge effort to indicate why and how these things happen. Abstraction is all I could afford.

@Achuth. Exactly dude. Seems we both are pretty much in the exact wavelength. "Furious" is something that comes to mind for everyone when they think about Indian politics, but that is something we cannot change, not immediately.

Well said Braga.... and as Ranjith indicated lets not narrow down the issue to team lunch or some thing as such. Rather, the emphasis should be on scorching rise of food prices in the recent past because of the existing system(mostly political, but not just the one) and some mitigation ideas.... if any.
Just my two cents........

We cant compare an evolving field like IT to other fields. The share of IT to the workforce in India is still less, last i heard was only 1.6 million IT professionals. As industry evolves, we ll also become like a civil or mech engg stream.

Whatever we are seeing now is not sustainable and everyone knows that. And it will evolve itself. Blaming the IT sector is not a constructive approach. It has lifted us in off the beat proportions.

There is a place for every type of spending in an economy and expensive team lunches are a part of the the economy. There is a diff kinda growth because of the willingness to spend at that level. Big malls, five star hotels and the like. That is also a growth story for india at one level. This kinda growth will contribute to attracting foreign investments and the like also.. Just my 2 cents...

@Srikkant : Yes dude, I accept to your views, I never denied it. For godsake, I am an IT professional as well!
1.6 Million is a huge number dude enough to make an impact that drives almost all the industries. If you take from any major industry, from banking to travel to construction to even pharma wat not! IT has a major hand in it.
And we are pretty much blind folded by the psuedo rise in our standard of living. The place that we are going to have our future generation live is going to be a hell, its very tough to be denying that. May not be for you or me but its gonna severely affect the middle and lower middle class families.
My argument here is whether we're aware about it or not.
